Get to Know Joe

Valor Mechanical is a family-owned business that is in Stewartville, MN. Since our 10-year birthday is coming up in September, we think it’s high time we start introducing the Valor family to the interwebs – starting with Joe. Joe has recently taken over the Service Operations Manager position and is leading the Valor team with integrity and trust. Let us introduce you to Joe…

When did you join Valor?

April 12th 2021 – I was at Minnesota Energy as a commercial construction Project Manager, then transitioned to Service Operations Manager.

What made Valor Mechanical the right career move for you?

The opportunity to work side by side with my father-in-law and brother-in-law was a no brainer honestly. After 20+ years working in the field in various area of the trades, it was time to give my body a rest and make the transition into the office life. I spent most of my career on the service side of the business, so learning the commercial construction side has been quite fun and rewarding.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of work?

I love to spend as much time as I can on the golf course during the summer. I also really enjoy spending time with friends and family. I especially love spending time with my niece and nephews. My wife and I travel as much as we can. Competing in poker tournaments is one of my biggest passions in life. I plan to make my second trip to the World Series of Poker in June.

Do you own any pets?

Humans are outnumbered in our house. Our two bird dogs (wirehaired griffons) Puckett and Walter keep us on our toes while our two cats Mitzi Mae and Marvin Grey keep the dogs in check. It’s often chaotic when they all start chasing each other around the house but we love it!

Favorite place that you have traveled to and why?

Hands down Italy. If you’ve been there, you understand. The food, history, culture, and the sights to see are unbelievable. To see the Colosseum in Rome, Michelangelo’s David in Florence, and the canals in Venice was a life changing experience.

Did you play any sports in High School or College?

I’ve been a sports nut for as long as I can remember. And baseball was my first true love. Playing traveling baseball as a kid and competing in tournaments are very fond memories from growing up. I was fortunate enough to play with a special group of guys that did very well over the years. If you didn’t find me at the ballpark, you were likely to find me playing a pick-up game of another sport.

Your go-to restaurant when you don’t want to cook at home and why?

This is a tough one… Rochester has sooooo many great options. Wildwood has always been a regular spot for us. The owner/chef Jim Nicholas knows what he is doing! Amazing comfort food and they have the best chicken wings in town, I highly recommend the boneless Thai Chili wings! First Meeting Noodle is new to town but is quickly becoming a favorite also!
